Wellness in the Workplace - Morning Keynote
Dr. Kevin Kelloway Ph.D., Professor of Management and Psychology, Saint Mary*s University; Canada Research Chair in Occupational Health Psychology; Director, CN Centre for Occupational Health and Safety
Wellness in the workplace is a subject generating discussion across the globe. Sufficient data has now been accumulated to support the unequivocal conclusion that organizational leaders play a critical role in creating a healthy workplace. Workplace culture, leadership practices and values profoundly influence employee productivity, both negatively and positively. Dr. Kevin Kelloway*s message will prove to be very revealing and persuasive. Dr. Kelloway will demonstrate how unhealthy work practices contribute to rising health care costs and decreasing employee productivity resulting from workplace stress, absenteeism, and many health issues. Leadership can have a great impact reducing these workplace concerns. Implementing various results-oriented wellness and prevention initiatives can be easier to achieve than you think possible, in both small and large organizations.
Effective Communication Strategies for Managers
Ceridian
Working while under stress can lead to people feeling on edge, emotionally exhausted, and burned out. Often poor employee performance or conduct is a result of workplace stress or crisis, and if left unaddressed, can lead to other serious problems which can result in an immense burden on workplaces and other employees. How do you recognize work-related stress, and how do you address it? This session will provide participants with strategies to facilitate respectful communication and effective management of employees experiencing stress and performance-related issues. A healthy workplace cultivates creativity, and consequently, stronger employee commitment.
Human Rights, Civility, and Collaboration
Greg Howard, Michele Dorsey, Joan McDonald
New perspectives on workplace disputes and opportunities for innovative ways to resolve conflict will be the focal point of this session. Greg Howard from the Human Rights Commission will address these issues and how they relate to Human Rights, while Michele Dorsey of HRA, will speak from the legal and dispute resolution practitioner*s perspective. Joan McDonald of Inverlie Consulting will share options and supports for work units or whole organizations when working through issues, bringing to light interesting and collaborative means of settling issues.
Time Management
Paula Gallant
Managing responsibilities and demands placed upon us can wear the most organized person down, at work and at home. This session will provide you with tools to determine what is important to you in order to maintain work and lifestyle balance. You will be able to identify the difference between urgency and importance when setting priorities and organizing responsibilities by using strategies to tackle procrastination, plan wisely, and keep you focused to put you well on the way to controlling time instead of it controlling you!
